Nokia launches the very affordable Lumia 620 in UAE

Nokia launches the very affordable Lumia 620 in UAE
Nokia seems to be the pioneer of Windows 8 phones in the market the way that Samsung seems to dominate the Android phone market, but one of the biggest steps in doing so is having a number of products offering that experience at various price points for a mass audience. There’s the flagship Lumia 820 which is pricey but has a whole lot of power inside it, but then there’s their 820 which is somewhat scaled down but in some ways even better (it has expandable memory and switchable covers) for cheaper. Now, they’ve launched the Lumia 620 which is much more affordable for the casual audience who doesn’t like spending thousands on a mobile phone and can effectively compete with the low-end Android devices that Samsung offers.
Dubai, UAE, 13 January 2013: Nokia introduces the Nokia Lumia 620, the most affordable smartphone in its range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones in UAE, retailed at AED 899. Alongside the flagship Nokia Lumia 920 and mid-range Nokia Lumia 820, the Nokia Lumia 620 offers a more fun, youthful appeal, and compact design.
The Nokia Lumia 620 uses a new dual-shot color technique to deliver a variety of striking color and texture effects. Dual-shot adds a second layer of colored, transparent or translucent polycarbonate on top of a base layer to produce secondary color blends and depth effects.  With seven different exchangeable shells to choose from, people can adapt the look of their Nokia Lumia 620 to their own personal taste and style.
'We continue to execute on our strategy to reach new audiences and new markets by expanding our smartphone offering,' said Tom Farrell, Vice President, Nokia Middle East. 'With its innovative design, the latest Nokia Lumia 620 with Windows Phone 8 software and signature experiences from Nokia, like Nokia lenses, Nokia Maps, City Lens and Nokia Music, the Nokia Lumia 620 is a highly competitive smartphone at a very affordable price point.'
Among the features shared with the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 are exclusive camera lenses that transform the creative power of the Nokia Lumia 620’s five megapixel main camera and VGA front-facing camera. The Cinemagraph lens adds simple animations to still photographs, while Smart Shoot creates a single, perfect shot from multiple images, even removing unwanted objects from the picture.
The Nokia Lumia 620 also provides access to the world’s best maps and location experience, including Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, Nokia Transport and the exclusive Nokia City Lens. Nokia City Lens displays information about local surroundings overlaid onto buildings as seen through the camera viewfinder.
Making it easy to discover and enjoy new music, Nokia Music provides free streaming of ad-free tracks without registration or subscription and the ability to download playlists for listening offline.
With NFC support, the Nokia Lumia 620 can easily pair with NFC-enabled accessories like the JBL PlayUp Portable Speaker for Nokia. Open and secure NFC-connectivity makes it possible to share and receive content by tapping with compatible devices, or make secure payments using the Wallet application in Windows Phone 8.
Powered by Windows Phone 8, the Nokia Lumia 620 delivers a more personal smartphone experience. Adjustable Live Tiles update direct to the Start Screen. People Hub pulls together contact information from multiple address books and social networks into a single location, making it easy to stay in touch with friends and set up contact Groups and private Rooms for sharing. From the Me Tile people can check in to their location, post an update, set chat status, see what’s new and monitor notifications across Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.  Windows Phone 8 also includes Xbox Live, Microsoft Office, 7GB of online SkyDrive storage and faster, safer surfing with Internet Explorer 10.
These features and capabilities are enabled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon™ S4 Plus processors.
The Nokia Lumia 620 will be available in a range of colors* including, lime green, orange, magenta, yellow, cyan, white and black. Priced at AED 899, the Nokia Lumia 620 will begin selling on the 20th of January 2013 in the United Arab Emirates.

Blackberry looking at licensing BB10 ?

Blackberry looking at licensing BB10 ?
We kinda saw it coming...RIM could license BB10 to other manufacturers
The end of the proprietary device slash ecosystem has long been coming. And apparently we just got news of one of the last great proprietary device joining the herd. With the BB10 launch just ten days away, RIM CEO, Thorsten Heins, told German newspaper Die Welt that he has not ruled out licensing the new OS to other manufacturers.
He defended the long wait for BB10 to reach the markets, saying “We have taken the time to build a platform that is future-proof for the next ten years. Our aim is not only to smartphones, but also to the use, for example, in cars that will be in the future increasingly networked. We see with BlackBerry 10 completely new areas of growth. And he seemed to hint at targeting new segments for growth saying “We are a relatively young industry. In the smartphone market, which is growing fast, so there is still plenty of room. It will be shown at some point, how many systems the market can bear. Im assuming that well play with BlackBerry 10 is not just a role. I think our role will be substantial”.
Heins did hint, though, the whole aspect was undergoing a strategic review, since the platform would need to be a winner before they optioned alliances. “Before you licensed the software, you must show that the platform has a large potential. First we have to fulfill our promises. If such proof, a licensing is conceivable. But there is no reason for us to decide in [haste]. It is important first of all, BlackBerry 10 successfully putting them on the market. Then we shall see.”

iPhone 5 vs BlackBerry Z10 video reveals Siri-beating feature

iPhone 5 vs BlackBerry Z10 video reveals Siri-beating feature

BlackBerry 10 is still a week away from it's official launch so this video should still be taken with a grain of salt, that said it does give a rough idea of what we can expect.

A new video of what appears to be the new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone going up against the iPhone 5 has been uploaded to YouTube by Austrian site Telekom Presse.

One of the most interesting features shown was BlackBerry's new Siri-like service which will let you ask the smartphone questions and get it to perform tasks through voice control.

If the video is to be believed then the new service looks to be a genuine competitor to Apple's Siri and also Samsung's own version, S-Voice with the phone responding instantly to a request given.

Telekom Presse claims that the Z10 device they have is only running a beta of BlackBerry 10 so it's not clear as to whether this is anywhere near the final release we'll see when the OS is unveiled next week.
Elsewhere the video looks to confirm some of the BB Z10's hardware features which includes a micro-USB port and a micro-HDMI port for streaming content straight onto a HDTV.

Ford Focus Electric Certified at 105 MPGe Combined

The EPA has bestowed upon the Ford Focus Electric a 105-MPGe combined economy rating, earning the car, in the words of Ford, the title of “most fuel-efficient five-passenger vehicle” sold in America. The Blue Oval, as champions are sometimes wont to do, has commenced trash-talking the Nissan Leaf. (More on MPGe here.)

2012 Ford Focus Electric

Ford points out that the Focus’s combined figure beats that of Nissan’s EV by 6 MPGe, and that it also takes the highway-mileage crown by 7 MPGe, returning 99 MPGe. We’ll go ahead and add that the Ford also beats the Leaf in the city, 110 MPGe to 106. The Focus also received an official range rating of 76 miles on a single charge. The Leaf trails in that metric, too, with an EPA-approved range of 73 miles, although we averaged just 58 miles per charge during our long-term test of the Nissan. We’d expect Focus Electric range to similarly suffer in real-world conditions.

As for charge time, Ford says the Focus’s 23-kWh battery pack can be rejuvenated in about four hours on 240-volt juice, or three fewer than the seven hours required to charge the Leaf’s 24-kWh battery pack using the same hookup. The Focus Electric gets 123 hp and 181 lb-ft from its electric motor; the Leaf’s pumps out 107 hp and 207 lb-ft.

The Focus Electric will be available in California, New York, and New Jersey by this summer, and Ford will add 16 additional markets by the end of the year. One detail that Ford fails to mention is that, at $39,995 before tax credits, its hatchback EV starts $3000 dearer than the Leaf.

LeMons Southern Discomfort Day One : Saab 9-3 Leads, Silver Errors 190E 2.3-16 in Second

With the Midwest tornadoes putting the concept of “bad weather” into perspective, the Southern Discomfort LeMons racers took a rainy green flag at Carolina Motorsports Park with nary a complaint. The downpours, however, did encourage a healthy amount of spinnin,’ slidin,’ and drivin’ full speed into ta’dirt in your Monte Carlo. Of course, this event marked the first time the LeMons has run the longer, trickier, and much faster full-length CMP configuration. With the soggy weather and higher-speed layout, even the best-handling cars struggled to keep all the wheels pointing the right way. (Monte Carlos didn’t stand a chance.)

LeMons Southern Discomfort Monte Carlo - Off-Track Excursion

As is often the case, however, such conditions don’t seem to affect the frontrunners nearly as much as the lower ranks–by the time the checkered flag fell on Saturday’s session, the top spots were filled with familiar faces.

LeMons rbankracing.com Saab 9-3

With once-proud Saab quickly slipping into oblivion, the race-leading 9-3 sedan of rbankracing.com is providing a pinpoint of light for the vegetative automaker. Or it’s possible that this Saab-centric team’s consistently excellent LeMons performances pushed the Swedish brand off the cliff more quickly. In any case, the 9-3′s turbocharged speed and clean-driving pilots will be difficult to beat on Sunday.

LeMons Silver Errors Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16

The Ziegel Scheißhaus Racing squad—competing this time under the Silver Errors banner—managed to score a genuine Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 for LeMons money. Before you cry foul, remember this: Any Gordon Gekko wannabe worth his Rolex Submariner would have dumped his 2.3-16 at the first signs of trouble—which likely happened for every example right around the same time as the fall of the Berlin Wall. A ragtag bunch of careless owners likely followed, culminating in a lien sale from a 17-year-old owner who got sent to juvie after going DTM down Maple Street. That’s just one possibility, of course, but one thing is clear: Not all 2.3-16s are classics. The ZSR LeMons entry certainly isn’t a museum piece, but it’s DTM impression is halfway decent: Second place overall is a good result regardless of pedigree.

LeMons Hong Norrth Mazda MX3

Holding down the third spot is one of the most successful LeMons teams of all time, Hong Norrth. In fact, the team’s trusty Mazda MX3 has won the last five races it’s entered, so it’s way too early to count them out.

LeMons NSF Racing Mitsubishi Cordia

NSF Racing is rolling proof that LeMons is highly unpredictable. After this very blog predicted an early demise for the team’s factory-turbo Cordia, this example of a seldom-seen Mitsubishi soldiered (slowly) through day one with no terminal issues. Through the first half of the day, NSF held a lead over a handful of other teams with which they had friendly pre-race wagers. The cars in on the bet? The Cordia, a Ford LTD, a ’67 Galaxie, and the first-ever LeMons AMC Pacer.

LeMons NSF Racing Mitsubishi Cordia

But after spending the second half of day one battling a self-lowering redline, the Cordia crew finally had to break out the wrenches. The culprit—which we’ll charitably call “fuel contamination”—was eventually identified and remedied. The Cordia rejoined the track as the session was near its end, promptly setting NSF Racing’s (still glacially slow) fastest lap of the race.
LeMons Tunachuckers Ford LTD

With the Cordia taking a short vacation on pit road, the hulking Ford LTD of the LeMons-veteran Tunachuckers team surged ahead in the aforementioned unofficial race-within-a race. With the big Ford clicking off consistently quicker lap times than the Cordia, the Mitsubishi team will need an LTD problem on Sunday to retake the lead. Just by taking a quick glance at this rolling oil derrick, we’d say a problem is pretty likely.
