Archos Child Pad Android tablet runs ICS

Believing in children's capability to add a new dimension to reading, studying and exploring the nuances of communication, these days, is a must. It's because from the tender age of four the learn Angry Birds and sometimes even brain teasers. That's what we see as the motivating factor behind the carving of the Archos Child Pad Android tablet. The tablet is a 7-inch wonder that seems to be cut out for young minds. It will have Android Ice Cream Sandwich and will run on a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, have its own App Store that has over 10,000 applications for this age group. Much needed and present in this one is a parental control application that helps parents deny Web access.

Just because the Archos Child Pad is targeted towards a rather young audience, the company wasn’t going to power it up with any old slice of Gingerbread. Getting its steam from nothing less than the Ice Cream Sandwich OS, the device works with 1GB of RAM and a 1GHz processor.

The Archos Child Pad is chipped out to sport a noticeably compact and lightweight form factor, keeping its potential user in mind. A 7-inch touchscreen display stretches across its face and though we’d like to know more, that’s the last detail Archos is presently giving out when it comes to the hardware specifications.

The slate will offer access to the Kids App Store supported by AppsLib. The applications will be separated into 14 categories and the 10,000 available apps are set to cover entertainment, games, communication, multimedia, comics, sports, books and more. Flight Frenzy, Pig Rush and Angry Birds as well as a few other apps will arrive pre-loaded onto the Archos Child Pad.

“As a pioneer in the portable audio and Android tablet market we realize the importance of providing a tablet that can offer hours of entertainment for all ages, especially kids. Archos strives to offer great tablets with only the best of features at affordable prices and we expect this tablet to bring a smile to the faces of kids and parents’ everywhere,” elaborated Henri Crohas, Founder and CE, Archos.

It goes without saying that the UI on this tablet for kids is designed so that it’s easy to navigate, with colored icons and homescreen folders delivering direct access to various applications. Additionally, the ICS slab rubs along just fine with CIPA and COPPA regulations, onboard parental controls and internet surfing powered by Editions Profil.

The Archos Child Pad price amounts to around $129. It will be seen in stores towards the end of March.
